One plus one equals one: Bocholt offers many of the advantages of a big city — but it manages to remain a manageable, cosy and compact medium-sized city.

Bocholt enjoys a reputation for shopping that is praised well beyond the city limits. The appealing downtown area, with its pedestrian shopping areas and the “ShoppingArkaden” and “Neutor” shopping centres, boasts about 350 stores. Owneroperated businesses and boutiques as well as large, wellknown brands can be found sidebyside. If you enjoy cooking, you will find all the ingredients you need at the outdoor market against the backdrop of the historical town hall — and you will run into friends there, too. The many cafés provide a place to take a break from shopping. And in the evening? Get together in the Ravardi neighbourhood, with its many pubs, bars and bistros.

And anyway: Bocholt can play “big city”! Just look at the wide variety of cultural highlights and the many different recreational and leisure activities. The traditional autumn fair attracts visitors, as do the special Sunday shopping days, concerts featuring international stars and lots of other events for the whole family. The Aasee reservoir with its swimming area and the municipal forest are great for outdoor fun. The Bahia swimming complex, with its  MediterraneanMoorish saunas, is an essential component of the leisure offerings, as are the Kinodrom multiplex and the local theatre. Or go to the Pepperoni stage or the “Alte Molkerei” (old dairy) cultural site if you are looking for comedy or lively music.
